Our Mission

ALIAS was founded in 2002 by a group of Nashville Symphony Musicians looking for a way to perform chamber music while giving back to the community.

For 14 years, every concert raised funds for an area non-profit. Now we focus on our own community outreach program: ALIAS In the Community

Who We Are…

ALIAS Chamber Ensemble was founded in 2002 as a nonprofit chamber ensemble dedicated to an innovative repertoire, artistic excellence, and a desire to give back to the community. Our impact over the years includes: Nominated for a GRAMMY award for Best Small Ensemble Performance for our debut album, 2011’s Gabriela Lena Frank: HILOS (Threads), on the Naxos Label; Four albums recorded, each of which includes world premiere recordings by American composers; 39 world premieres performed, 17 of which were commissioned for ALIAS; and reaching hundreds each year with interactive education and outreach programming through ALIAS In the Community.

In September 2023, ALIAS released its latest album ALIAS LIVE, featuring works recorded from live concerts spanning three years performed around Nashville.

Today, ALIAS continues to deliver a wide-ranging repertoire to Nashville audiences with a mix of chamber music that cannot be heard anywhere else. Our work in Middle TN is unique and is driven by our core musicians who want to share classical music in a variety of imaginative programs and give concerts to people who may not have access to live performances. ALIAS in the community.

Each ALIAS in the Community (AIC) performance features a select group of musicians who bring new and ageless classical music to the community in a variety of imaginative educational programs. ALIAS knows no boundaries in the ways music can change lives and contribute to Nashville's vibrant culture. Whether it's through mentoring High School students in their dreams to pursue music, introducing young hearts and minds to the world of classical music for the first time at various elementary schools, or providing classical music programming to formerly incarcerated adults, our programming both enhances and enriches lives throughout the city.

Alias is pleased to announce its partnerships with students at Whitsett Elementary, Fall - Hamilton Elementary, Big Picture High to present monthly concerts and ongoing projects.
Alias also performs at Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministries, Fifty Forward, ALIVE Hospice, and MOVE Inclusive Dance which continues a long tradition of Alias in the Community.
