Jim became ALIAS’ first paid Executive Director in June 2011 after having served as a member of the ALIAS Board for the past three years. He originally joined ALIAS as a volunteer who helped coordinate each season’s concerts. Now going into its fourth year, the ALIAS Arts and Flowers, which was created by Jim, is now a permanent Nashville event and ALIAS’ principal fundraiser.
Jim also serves on the board of directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals-Nashville and is currently Chair of Diversity for the Nashville Chapter. He has been the recipient of the Chamberlain Scholarship, Susan Simons Scholarship and Senior Fundraising Scholarship. He was recognized at the Center for Nonprofit Management’s “Salute to Excellence in 2012 as the only individual to complete all five certifications including Volunteer Management, Fund Development, Nonprofit Essentials, Nonprofit Leadership and Program Management.
His past nonprofit experience included working as an Event Coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee managing one of their biggest fundraisers, Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Previous to that, he was the Development Coordinator at Outlook Nashville, where his primary responsibility was the Incredible Edible Chocolate Festival.
He received an Associate of Business Administration Degree from Belleville Area College, Belleville, Illinois. He served three years in the United States Army, with a year in Vietnam.
Jim relocated to Tennessee with Inter-City Products Corporation in Red Bud, Illinois, where he worked for thirty-three years. He served as manager of corporate accounts payable and manager of warranty administration. When Inter-City Products transferred to Lewisburg, Tennessee, and eventually closed its facility, Jim entered the retail profession. He worked at Dillard’s, the Mall at Green Hills, for a number of years as a sales associate in the Home Store and counter manager for Origins. He was a “Pacesetter”, selling $300,000 in merchandise annually.
