ALIAS continues its series Emerging Voices, focusing on the work of women composers, presenting works by three very diverse women. Deborah Kavasch will join ALIAS to sing her own work, The Fox and the Grapes. Later on the program are two works by women composers that feature baroque instruments: Cari Musici by Bianca Maria Meda (1690); and unusually, Envision, a string quartet by American composer Belinda Reynolds (2006).
The concert also features two unusual string quartets. The first, by Anton Arensky, is scored for two celli, rather than the traditional two violins. The second, American Dreams, is a serious work by composer Peter Schickele, more popularly known as P.D.Q. Bach.
