Alan Fey is a classically-trained percussionist who specializes in solo and chamber music. Based in Nashville, his primary focus is on the creation & performance of new music, having been involved in the commissioning and world premieres of more than 12 works in just the last 6 years. Alan has performed in spaces ranging from the Zeitgeist Art Gallery to conundrum music hall in Columbia, SC to Millennium Park in Chicago to Carnegie Hall in New York. When not performing, Alan is involved in Make Music Nashville, whose primary function is to produce a day of free, outdoor music in communities all over Nashville on the Summer Solstice.
Alan studied primarily with Chris Norton at Belmont, where he earned his Bachelor & Master of Music degrees in percussion performance. He spent a year in Dresden studying with Bernhard Schmidt at the Hochscule für Musik. In addition to ALIAS, Alan has performed with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and INTERSECTION Contemporary Music Ensemble, as a concerto soloist with the Nashville Philharmonic and Belmont Symphony Orchestras, in various chamber settings, and as a soloist throughout the southeast.
When he’s not musicking, he can be found serving and sampling local craft beer, or supporting his wife’s baking profession as her chief taster.
